A/N: A different view of Narcissa than the ones I usually write. Lucius has just gone to Azkaban and Draco is still at school. Hope you like it.

The house echoed as Narcissa paced, alone for the first time since her marriage. Even the servants had deserted the Manor after the Auror raids. The house elves, unable to break their bindings, hid from her passing.

Pausing at the mirror, Narcissa peered at herself, hands reflexively smoothing her perfect hair, tangling her wedding ring in her hair. Lucius would be furious, came the unbidden thought as she tugged it loose. With impatient fingers, she twisted the ring off, not caring that she drew blood, “Who cares?” she demanded, hurling the ring down the stairs, “Freedom is mine at last.”
